Framework Faces Backlash Over BIOS Update Issues with Ryzen 7040 Laptops

MALAYSIA: Framework is facing criticism after a BIOS update for its Framework Laptop 13 with AMD Ryzen 7040-series processors has reportedly been bricking the systems. The issue arose after users began installing BIOS 3.20, released in June 2026, which was intended to support new hardware features and fix existing issues. The Framework Laptop 13, featuring AMD Ryzen 7040 processors, was launched in 2023. The BIOS 3.20 update aimed to enhance features such as a haptic touchpad and new speakers for the higher-end models.

Despite the intended improvements, users have reported problems with their systems failing after the update. "where the Battery Extender status was reported incorrectly following a reboot, hibernation, or shutdown after the timer had expired," they said. The situation has prompted concerns about the reliability of BIOS updates and their impact on system stability. Framework is expected to investigate the issue further and potentially release a fix to address the problems caused by the recent update.
