MALAYSIA: Amazon has announced a new option for Twitch users to opt out of having their content used in training the company's artificial intelligence models. This policy change allows streamers to prevent their streams, clips, and chats from being utilized to develop AI technology, a practice Amazon has employed for over two years. Twitch users need to adjust their settings to maintain control over their content. The announcement follows years of using Twitch content to enhance Amazon's generative AI capabilities.
This practice, which was previously not widely known among users, involved training AI models with vast amounts of data generated by streamers. The update gives content creators more control over their data and privacy. "streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on your channel [to] be used in future training of a model developed by Amazon whose purpose is to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video," Amazon said. The company emphasizes that opting out is a proactive step for users who wish to keep their content from being included in AI model training. The broader implications of this change could lead to increased scrutiny of how tech companies use user-generated content for AI development.
Streamers and content creators are likely to become more vigilant about the privacy and usage of their data, potentially prompting other platforms to adopt similar opt-out mechanisms.
